Welcoming the Traditional Generation
Have you ever considered how you can include the senior citizens of your church into your kids ministry? I’m not referring to the rugged 80 year old who is still running marathons, rather the elderly, frail, wheel chair bound grandpa who you see gently wheeled into the service early each Sunday. These aging members of the forgotten generation have just as much to contribute to our children’s lives as do the 30 year olds who come up with the most fun game ideas.
As you map out your ministry plan for the coming year, consider ways that you can have wiggle room to invite our seniors to be a part of ministry. For us, we have a lovely grammie who comes and is a part of our babies class once a month. She is sweet and friendly and welcomes our families into our space – smiling from her gleaming set of wheels.
It is a welcome sight to may of our families to see a elderly person in a space for the newly born. I think that it may bless Grammie just as much as it does us to have her serving with us.
The book of Proverbs reminds us that, Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.
What better place to remind our families of this than the welcoming smile from the traditional generation?
